The Libyan Shepherds
              16.5" × 14" Ink on paper

The drawing is a visual representation of a daily scene in the
life of the nomadic populations that inhabited the Libyan Desert.
Historically, the Libyans were in close contact with the Kushite
civilization. Herding used to be a primary way of life in the Libyan
Desert as it is today in Western Sudan (northern Kordofan and Darfur).
Like other nomads it is most probable that the Libyan herders must
have conducted trade with the settled communities in the Nile valley
in exchange for clothing and weapons products. Services provided
by the Libyans for the Kushites would have included cattle grazing
on farms after the harvest to provide dung to fertilize the soil,
              and guarding properties.
